Ultrabook S400CA-DB51T 14-Inch Deal

Ray: Received this product this past week. Quick review of my current computers, 1) 10 inch Acer Netbook 2) 17" Dell(8.8lbs) laptop 3) Large desktop, not OEM, based on Asus Motherboard, 3770k and GTX 680sc with an Asus 3D monitor. This new ultrabook is intended to be used as a replacement for my current netbook and laptop. As stated above, at home I have a very powerful desktop that I use for my hobby which is photography and astronomy. So most of my uses for this computer will be for browsing the internet, minor photo editing while traveling, and to be used for controlling my telescope operations including tracking, picture taking and their temporary storage. I stated my current computers only to show what my expectations are for my new ultrabook.

Robert M (Washington, D.C.): On CPUs, it would have been nice to have a generation 4, but the premium on a current generation 4 was price prohibitive for me. So the choices boiled down to generation 3 Intel processors. One being a slower i7, Variations of the i5 and a non hyper threaded i3. I ruled out, right or wrong, both the i7 and the i3. So the processors for me came down to the Intel i5 (hyper threaded) 3317 and the 3337. I opted for the newer Q1 2013 release version, Intel i5 3337.

Ipse Dixit "Ipse Dixit" (An Undisclosed Region, This Century) : This is my fourth ASUS product (the most recent purchase before this one was the G74SX gaming/desktop replacement laptop), and I've generally been happy with them. This is my first touch-screen enabled unit, something I was only mildly interested in but I actually quite like (though I'm hoping Windows 8.1 brings some much needed improvements to the currently somewhat incoherent user experience).

Granite Bay Golfer: Got one because of the price and the touch screen. Works very well, touch screen works as advertised. Screen display and keyboard are good. The issue I have is that the memory is basically fixed at 2GB. Early on I'd read that this was going to allow up to 8GB, which I assumed was user upgradeable. This is not the case. ASUS told me that the max is 4GB and that it can only be done at a service center. "On board" memory is evidently soldered to the motherboard.

Enchanted In Dixie "Enchanted" (LOWER ALABAMA USA): I'm going for a full 5 stars on this laptop, despite the limitations the product has in comparison to other laptops available on the market today. There are several apps that come pre-loaded on the laptop including Netflix, Bing search, paint, a pinball game, but it does not come with the Office Suite loaded, this will need to be a separate purchase. There are a couple of really good free word processors out there like LibreOffice that run very smoothly and have excellent features, not to mention Google Docs.

Lee : I completely love the ASUS VivoBook laptop! For quite a while now, I've wanted something small, yet versatile, for both personal and work business. Not to mention something I can easily access my favorite websites or play games on, and this laptop fit the bill perfectly! It comes packaged quite nicely with a small handle, and once you open the package there is only the laptop and the battery to charge it inside. No mess, no fuss. I did plug the battery to the left side port, and tried to charge it, but realized when the green light flashed that it came already pre-charged, which was great since I could dive right in and get to know my new laptop. And before I begin with all the internal specs, let me say this is a very light mini laptop, which is great because I'm a tiny person who already lugs around a million things, and added weight is not all that fun.

Jim MacLaury: Nice shape, very good keyboard design, it's not the best laptop in the market for sure, If you are looking to play the latest heavy duty 3D games, for sure you should look for something else, but for daily use, Internet with multi tabs on the browser, Chat software, Skype, Play basic games, type word documents, spreed sheets, it's very useful. Yes if you compare some other laptops with this one, they may load the operating system faster with one or two seconds, and run the other software faster with 1 sec, but for sure that does not bother me for the price I spend on this laptop, in another word, this one second faster thing does not worth to pay extra $100 or around.

Alaa: Anyone who want a low price laptop with a good shape, nice quality, good branded name, this should be the choose.
I tried to check the Asus website for drivers for this product ( as type of checking for future needs and there services, and I found at http://www.service.asus.com/#!downloads/c1wax ) that this product does not need any drivers if you are using Windows 8 32bit, that means all drivers already included in Windows OS.

Deb H "Deb H" (Washington State): I have another low end ASUS and continue to have a great experience with it. I plan to use this new one as a back up computer. It was fast enough and easy to use right out of the box. Then, I downloaded Office 365 and the system was sluggish. I uninstalled the software and it is much better again. When camping I run out of battery charge and need a second computer so I can continue writing. Wordpad, which is already installed, meets my needs under these circumstances. Yes, I know I could get a back-up battery for the other computer, but this newer one has a longer battery life than the old one and it has a cd drive, unlike the old one. Happy, but only rated 4 since it couldn't handle Office 365.

YouTube - wwjoshdew" (KCMO): I'm actually typing this review from the laptop. So far I'm impressed. I opened it up (If you search "wwjoshdew", I posted high resolution photos on Twitter) and the hard drive is easy to replace, but the ram is SOLDERED in! You can clearly see that in the pictures. I can't post a link, but on my Twitter I tweeted a link to an imgur album with several photos. 4GB is okay I guess. I'm going to be putting this 120GB Vertex 3.20 SSD in it and if the computer ever needs to read/write from the hard drive because all of the ram is used up, it will be really quick and you probably won't notice it.

Tyler D (Denver, CO USA): I love Asus, and most know that they create quality computers. A side note, my cousin's fiance has been working at Best Buy for five years as a part of the Geek Squad and informed me about the best computers on the market (Asus being one of those top brands). I also own a larger, 15.6-inch Asus laptop. My reason for purchasing this laptop is for the upcoming school year; I wanted something light, portable, sufficient memory, and multi-functional. I am a software engineer, so I wanted something that I could use for coding, as well as for taking notes in other classes. This computer is brilliant. I have been using it for hours and am entirely satisfied. A $400 laptop that is sleek, light, touch-screen, lots of memory, and efficient? Sold. The model of this computer is very appealing and couldn't ask for any better. No bulging battery, looks similar to an Apple computer.

Radashack: After returning the ASUS Vivotab Smart Tablet because of weird and unexplained quirks and failures, I ordered this one because of the more traditional specs and full-blown Windows 8. After some software anomalies in respect to Windows Update, (it doesn't tell you the progress of the downloads and installation which makes you think nothing is happening), but everything else worked fine. I was very disappointed in the description of this unit when Amazon failed to mention that THIS model DID NOT have Bluetooth (I just assumed it did). Not a problem though because I ordered the Kinivo BTD-400 Bluetooth Adapter, plugged it in, and the software automatically downloaded (Windows 8), and this thing grabbed Bluetooth devices I didn't know I had!

Mark mueller: I got this about a hour ago and as for the functionality of the laptop I can not say much yet because I have not had it very long, but what I can say is that what is listed on Amazon for the spec is incorrect. I doesn't come with a Core i7 4500u processor, it comes with a Core i7 3537u, also it does not have a 1TB hard drive it is only a 500GB hard drive. I have not decided yet if I am going to return it or not but I am going to wait a day and see it it works out for me.

Gavin Mandy: Overall I am very happy with the machine - for a 15.6" machine it is lightweight and thin and an example of this is that you can easily sit with it on your lap for as long as is needed without the machine becoming heavy or hot. The screen size makes working for extended periods of time a breeze and the touch screen is great. There is no optical disk so if you need one you would need to order additionally.

Christina : It is a nice laptop for its price. I really wanted the Asus Zenbook, but it is so much more expensive. I like the design of the Vivobook, it looks like a Mac, but of course because it's Asus, it's better! Touch screen works well and screen doesn't smudge that much (just remember to clean it once in a while with the wipe). I've recently noticed the fan sound, but it's not unbearable. Whenever I have my headphones in I can't hear it at all. The speakers are great. The screen is very glass-like and will reflect, but I think that's the case with any laptop that doesn't have a matte screen. Any questions, just comment below and I'll try to answer them when I can.

John: I lost my Galaxy Nexus earbuds with a built-in mic so I had to get a new one. My earbuds also decided to break shortly after so I invested in this product. It seems to work fine but it hurts my ears... I am using the smallest bud and it still seems to hurt. Also, sound quality is decent considering the price, but it has slight problems... the balance between sound levels (bass-soprano etc) do not seem to line up very well but I looked for cheap earbuds with a built-in mic; I don't blame it.

Pussyfoots: I bought two sets of these earphones, one for me and one for my husband, they both fell apart just a few weeks after we got them. I used mine less than five times so it wasn't from excessive use! We superglued both pairs and they have stayed together so far but I really don't think they should have fallen apart so quickly. So far so good. It also comes with extra gel covers for different sized ears! This is GREAT since my ears are smaller than avg. I put on the smaller one and they fit great with no pain or stretching! Huge selling point for me!

Luis : This is an ecomical little package. The pink case is lady sized and earphones with the flat wire snuggle nice & neat inside the case. Needless to say the case slips into purse or pocket. Will be this combo again for gift or myself.Less than 1 month and it's broken, the little speaker within the earphones get loose.
After normal use, in the office and inside my house, the plastic assembly get loose and then it get broken.
I have to use Super glue to put this part together again.

Anibal: Speed. Ram and processor live up to expectations. Windows 8 running super good, and even though im not a big fan of the OS, Im learning to deal with it. CAnt imagine what itd be like running 16gb, which it can be upgraded to.
Storage. Almost a TB storage. Need I say more?
Aesthetics. It looks pretty.Touchpad can be weird sometimes. It might be I have to tweak the sttings but it just doenst feel right at times.
Screen could use a bit more detail, clarity...resolution? DOnt know what the term is here. DEfinitely not the sharpest or clearest screen in the market.

Scholar99: I've been learning Windows 8 and figuring out everything I can with this laptop and so far it's been amazing! Terrific picture quality and great sound! Apps run smoothly, Netflix and iTunes work great! Everything I could want in a laptop for school and work. So slim and light. I've only had it for the day but so far it's everything I wanted. Great buy and Great price!! Being someone who is not very tech savvy I found this laptop easy to use and learn. Also it's so quiet when running programs and even just starting up. I totally recommend this laptop for everyone.

Usha Rani Akkina : The system is very slow. Cant stream videos, the system just hangs.
Even when you are playing a video on a player, the system becomes slow.
Even if I try to terminate a process, the task manager does not open quickly.
Sometimes the system gets turned off automatically.
Its definitely not worth money, I am shocked that it has I5 processors and is like this.Great entry level computer. The resolution is decent can run youtube vids at 720p no problem. Did not keep windows 8 too much bloat. Dual booted Ubuntu 13.04 with no problem and all hardware works fine and Arch Linux.
